Wes Ramsey ("CSI: Miami") and Taylor Cole ("Heroes") have both landed roles on the drama pilot, a thriller about "a decent, regular fellow who battles against mysterious circumstances that envelope a larger conspiracy." While not indicated, they're believed to be playing Greg and Vicky, a couple who Sean (Jason Ritter) and Leila (Sarah Roemer) befriend while on vacation that may have ulterior motives. Also joining the project is Jeffrey Reiner ("Caprica") as director. Nick Wauters penned the Universal Media Studios-based hour, who also stars Blair Underwood, Ian Anthony Dale, Laura Innes, Scott Patterson and Zeljko Ivanek.

It's pilot season in LA! And Wes is slated to star in NBC's new drama "The Event". He will be co-starring with Blair Underwood (Simon Elder from "Dirty Sexy Money"), Laura Innes (Dr Kerry Weaver from "ER") & Jason Ritter (Kevin Girardi from "Joan of Arcadia").

"The Event" is a thriller chronicled from multiple points of view that centers on Sean (Jason Ritter), a regular man fighting his way through the mysterious circumstances of a conspiracy to assassinate the U.S. president (Blair Underwood).

The recently-elected President, originally envisioned as "a poised Hispanic JFK," is described as smart, honest, confident and doing a good job at hiding his relative inexperience. He is a family man and a man of faith who truly wants to do good.

"The Event" was first conceived by writer Nick Wauters a few years ago, before Barack Obama's 2008 election as the U.S.' first black president.

Underwood, who is about the same age as Obama, was a supporter of the former Illinois Senator in his presidential campaign and spoke at several Obama rallies.

This is the second black president on a major U.S. TV series following Dennis Haysbert's turn on the first season of Fox's "24."

"Days of our Lives" Casting News

Those crazy kids on "Days of our Lives" just can't seem to stay put. Now that Stephanie's been rescued from the morgue in which Owen had stashed her, Wes Ramsey will be catching the next train out of town.

Since that leaves room at the inn, Casey Jon Dedrick joins the cast on June 19th as Chad. Apparently, Chad shares a past with Mia (which makes us wonder: Is he her baby daddy??)

And the final bit of news out of Salem is that Mark Hapka has been cast as Nathan, Maggie's grandson and a new intern at the hospital. (We're not totally sure just how he's related to Maggie, but we're guessing he's her adopted daughter Melissa's son -- remember her?) Look for Nathan to cross with Melanie, which means "future love interest" as far as we're concerned.

Are you sad to see sexy Wes Ramsey go? We know a few folks at SOAPnet HQ will be.

Also, here are a few pics of Wes on Days from that website.

As daytime fans, we all know some universal truths: People talk to themselves all the time, a regrettable one-night stand will almost always result in a pregnancy, and the gardener is never just a gardener. So when Wes Ramsey makes his "Days of our Lives" debut as Owen, the Kiriakis gardener, we know we won't be the only ones watching him closely.

Not that we weren't already going to be watching him closely anyway. When we reported on Wes's casting back in March, we recalled previous performances of his on "Guiding Light" and in films like "Latter Days." So we've had our eyes on him.

But no matter what Owen the Mystery Gardener is up to -- and we hear he's working with EJ, which can't be good news for Team Kiriakis -- it'll also have something to do with his father, Walter Kent. And Walter will be played by Gordon Thomson, aka Adam Carrington from "Dynasty"! (Looks like we'll have to update our "Dynasty" Where Are They Now? Slideshow.)

Wes debuts as Owen in early May, while his onscreen dad shows up on May 18th.

Do you think Victor will fall for the old fake-gardener bit?
